Golan Telecom, HOT Mobile to begin int’l calls on July 17

The Communications Ministry ordered the international calls carriers to connect the two new mobile carriers by July 17.

Golan Telecom Ltd. and HOT Mobile Ltd. will be able to offer international calls, after an expedited hearing by the Ministry of Communications yesterday. Ministry director general Eden Bar-Tal and deputy director general engineering and licensing Haim Garon ordered the international calls carriers to connect the two new mobile carriers by July 17. The ministry officials rejected some international calls carriers’ request for more time to hook up the two mobile carriers.

The Ministry of Communications held the hearing because Golan Telecom was offering international calls without having received an operating permit, although it had a license. HOT Mobile had applied to provide international calls, even though it was in the same situation: it had an international calls license but no operating permit. Both carriers alleged that the international calls carriers were deliberately delaying hooking them up to their own services.
