Saban completes Partner acquisition

S.B. Israel Telecom Ltd., an affiliate of Saban Capital Group, Inc., announced today that it had closed its acquisition of the controlling interest in Orange franchisee Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) from Scailex Corporation (TASE: SCIX; Pink Sheets:SCIXF) The transaction includes the assumption of debt owed by Scailex to Advent Investments Pte Ltd., a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. (HKEX: 13).

Steinitz approves IEC fiber optic venture

Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz today signed the permit for Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) to engage in telecommunications. The permit, which will come into effect when Minister of Energy and Water Resources Uzi Landau also signs it, is the final step in the government’s plan to establish a nationwide fiber optic network with unprecedented access and quality.

Cellular price war heats up in Israel with free 3-month service

The latest volleys in the cellular service price war were fired last week with supermarket mogul Rami Levy offering the first three months to new customers for a shekel a month, recalling his chicken-for-a-shekel promotions. Pelephone, meanwhile, is offering a similar free service for the first three months.

Saban obtains permit for Partner takeover

Haim Saban’s takeover of Orange franchise Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) will be completed within days, after Saban Capital Group Inc. cleared the last obstacle to the deal – a permit from the Ministry of Communications for the deal. In a notice to the TASE yesterday, Partner’s controlling shareholder Scailex Corporation (TASE: SCIX; Pink Sheets:SCIXF), controlled by Ilan Ben-Dov, said, “The company and the buyer are preparing to close the deal within a few days, under the terms of the acquisition agreement.”
